Fragrance
In the past, I've commented about how, as we wean ourselves from nicotine, we smell better and we smell better. Along that vein, I've taken another look at fragrance. There are some lovely smells across the country sitting on glass display shelves and packed away in warehouses. Rather than risk the malls, I took a dive into drugstore dot com. It really is too bad that there is no smell-o-vision. I dove right in and found some lovely scents. Clean but not flowery.
I do not wanna smell like a funeral home or a French elevator. (My dad used to say that - "You smell like a French elevator," when somebody put on too much perfume.) My father wore Mennen aftershave, the green stuff in the rectangular bottle. I cannot smell Mennen without thinking of him. I'm also permanently fond of cigar smoke, thanks to dad.
I have a few other very distinct memories that relate to fragrances. My paternal grandmother always wore the same perfume, Emeraude. In spite of the fact that her house nearly always smelled like fresh bread baking, her personal smell was Emeraude. I don't think they make bread baking perfume, but I could be wrong. I have a dear cousin with whom I will always associate the fragrance of White Shoulders. Both she and the smell of White Shoulders make me smile.
I'm not much for the flowery perfumes for myself. My mother relates the smell of lilies or flowery smells with funeral homes. I've never made that association, but I do find most all commercial perfumes WAY too strong and overpowering. A couple fragrances that I do like:
Aliage by Estee Lauder
White Moss by Acca Kappa
au the VERT by Bulgari
I bought some Polo Sport for women by Ralph Lauren, but I don't like it much.
Yes, I know, they are all "green" smells. No suprise really.
I guess it's all about me and Kermit, not easy being green.
