Amaryllis

OK, OK I know, amaryllis are everywhere.  But they DO
bring some flamboyant bloom into the dead of winter when
we need it most.  I just LOVE the way they bloom like crazy.

You can always count on one bulb to give you 3 to 5
magnificent blossoms.  I picked a few up at Lowe's this
winter and planted them right away.

The first 2 bulbs threw up a lovely blossom stem and each
had 4 or 5 red blooms.  I was delighted and they did indeed
brighten my dining room table for a couple weeks.

The third bulb just sort of sat there in it's pot.  I waited until I was
afraid it would die of thirst before I watered it the second time.
Then things got interesting.  Man O Man did they.  Take a look-

I dunno if you can see from this photo, there are three blossom
stalks on this bulb.  Only two of them are blooming in this shot.
The third stalk threw 4 blossoms a week after the other two faded.

Three...hell, I always felt lucky to get two.  This bulb is just a big
old overachiever.  The best part is that she is making two baby
bulbs.  I'm so glad.

I think that amaryllis blooms help us get through winter.  Thank you bulbs.
